The second myth or misconception we are going to discuss relates to arthritis. More than 40 million people in the United States have been clinically diagnosed with some type of arthritis and that number is estimated to rise in the coming years. It is a widespread diagnosis and affects a lot of people, both old and young, especially the overweight and the inactive. The second myth or misconception we are going to discuss relates to arthritis. More than 40 million people in the United States have been clinically diagnosed with some form of arthritis and that number is judged to rise in the next few years. It is a widespread diagnosis and affects a vast number of people, both old and young, particularly the overweight and the inactive. However, just because you have been diagnosed with arthritis does not mean that you necessarily experience back pain.

Actually, there are thousands and thousands of Americans who have been diagnosed with arthritis in their backs, but do NOT actually experience back pain. Why is it then that you feel as if your spinal cord might break if you bend forward or twist too quickly? Why do you feel so rigid all the time?

Surprisingly, your pain and rigidity may not even be related to arthritis at all! Many back pain patients are commonly mis-diagnosed, meaning they do not have arthritis, but have a more severe and dangerous issue instead. This wrong diagnosis may not even be realized until it is too late. The pain can actually evolve into herniated or bulging discs in the spinal column, which will have huge consequences on your well-being later in life.

The pain and stiffness many arthritis patients deal with are caused by a combination of hidden imbalances of the spine and the surrounding muscles. If left unattended, these unseen imbalances can cause further health problems, such as hip replacement surgery. This is simple to avoid, if the problem is seen and taken care of quickly.

Think of your spine in terms of your car: if the wheel alignment on your car is just a little bit off, you may not see any obvious signs of the misalignment. You might be able to drive hundreds or even thousands of miles on the misaligned wheels before you may observe any changes. The car will probably not make any odd noises or pull to one side like you might expect. Sooner or later, after driving on the misaligned wheels, you may notice a peculiar pattern of baldness appear on the tires, the car might drift to one side, or a tire blow-out could cause a very life-threatening accident.

Just by taking the time to have your car and tires examined, you can easily avoid these would-be issues. You considerably increase your risk of being in a hazardous accident by continuing to drive on old and worn out tires. Here, the key to safety on the road lies in preventative maintenance.

The same is true of your spine. If you get your spine checked out for any potential problems, whether or not you are currently experiencing any pain, your chiropractor can provide you with preventative care. Your chiropractor can fix any misalignments to make certain you are feeling your best right now and to reduce your risk for any big health problems in the future.

Do you have back pain already? Be sure to stop in and visit your chiropractor for a spinal exam before your pain turns into a huge, consuming health problem.
