The Economist on Ayurveda - 2007/08/24 22:03 I thought I would share an article from the Economist on Ayurveda:

MODERN, Western medicine tends to pooh-pooh its herbal cousin. It is true that synthetic pharmaceuticals are purer, more reliable and often more effective than herbs. But many of them have herbal origins, and the sight of pharmacists botanising (collecting herbs from the countryside for sale as medicine) was common in Europe within living memory.

I would strongly urge people to read this, it gives food for thought on many other herbal medicine schools.

Kathmandu, Aug. 24: The three-day 'Ayur Expo 2007', organised by Nepal Ayurveda Medical Students Council (NAMSS), started Friday at Tribhuwan University (TU).

Minister for Education and Sports Pradip Nepal inaugurated the exhibition and he said that the teachers and students of Ayurvedic science students should popularise the subject abroad. He said the Ayurvedic science has been ignored.

This is in line with the Economist article, that the Indian sub continent is quite keen on pushing Ayurvedic medicine.
