For Those Who Cant Switch of - 2007/08/31 20:39 Lots of people just cant switch off their brains to enable them to meditate...

I use a native American powwow drum in my works shop, I have done this for years...

I use a simple beat called the heartbeat... and it works

I know that this may not seem to be quite the post that people will be expecting, but I find the Rosary to be the most effective meditation aid that I have ever used.

Re:For Those Who Cant Switch of - 2007/09/06 21:51 Of course, there are many different types of meditation--it's not just about "turning off your brain"!

Meditation can be summed up as simply observing your natural state-of-being. Thus is can be done in practically any situation.

So instead of trying to block out the thoughts, just allow them to come, observe them, and let them go--no forcing anything! This itself is a commonly practiced meditation.

Meditation on the breath is good for beginners.

I find incense sort of "sets the mood" and allows me to relax even more. I don't use any other tools except a mala (rosary) when reciting mantras.

Re:For Those Who Cant Switch of - 2007/09/06 23:12 When I first started I had problems being able to clear my mind of everything to meditate. I talked to one of my good friends however and he taught me a good trick to do so. I play soft relaxing music ad just think about a clear sky. Within no time I am free from all thoughts.
