Fuel or Food - 2007/09/30 07:22 Ethanol is made from plants, and of course that means that the choice has to be made between growing for fuel or growing for food.

To meet the fuel needs for the entire western population would take a whole lot of land that could otherwise could be used to grow food. Is this a sensible thing?

Re:Fuel or Food - 2007/10/01 09:53 It makes sense though. The corn has to be grown somewhere, and not everywhere is suitable for growing crops such as this. We are increasingly eating into crop growing land for housing, and the fact that the housing is needed tells us that the population is growing.

Therefore we need more land for food, not less..... it's an incredibly strange decision to be doing this.

Re:Fuel or Food - 2007/10/05 23:11 Actually, corn is so abudant here it wouldn't be very hard to grow fuel and food at the same time. Our agricultral and genetic/selective breeding can methods can ensure to produce enough for food and fuel.

Re:Fuel or Food - 2008/07/14 22:47 Actually, you can use the waste, or the parts of the plants not used in food. To say that we have to choose between the two isn't totally truthful.
