Politcal Ploy - 2007/10/01 17:50
Ladycat has well laid out for us the problems and the truth behind ethanol. I had long thought that it wasn't all it was being made out to be, and what is more I have read that in Brazil the production of ethanol is from a sugar cane-a waste product at that, and is far more efficient. It has enabled them to reduce oil imports over the 29 years that the program has been in operation.
Take a look here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol_fuel_in_Brazil Ladycat I would especially like to hear your views on this.
So why, given the success of the Brazilian program, did American programs decide to go with corn? Is this all just a political ploy, pulling the wool over the eyes of the masses? A way to placate people into being good little citizens whilst keeping the big oil companies happy?
What is the purpose of this program?
