Ethanol - Is it really better? - 2007/07/06 16:30 The amount of energy used to produce ethanol could very well nullify any benefits to the environment. Sure it burns cleaner than regular gas and diesel but when they are using all those tractors and trucks to cultivate and move the ingredients to make it, it's almost no difference in evironmental impact.

In India we have 10% ethanol Petrol but goverment thinking about to raise percentage from 10 to 30% in next month.

You also have to factor in the energy costs of the water that is needed to produce the corn is also going to take up a lot of energy.

Brazil has the right idea using sugar. It's efficient for ethanol production.

But the United States is building dozens of ethanol plants designed to use corn. Corn is very inefficient, and it is not going to work! When people finally figure that out, they will have to either shut down all those new plants, or convert them to use something besides corn.

Re:Ethanol - Is it really better? - 2007/09/07 03:52 You could use anything for fuel. Corn is mentioned as an option becaue it is easy to grow and we generally have a large surplus of it. Plus its environmentally "cleaner." The problem is trying to get companies to invest in it and start its use in a large scale area.

Re:Ethanol - Is it really better? - 2007/10/05 23:17 In the long run, it is certainly better. Ethanol is pretty much unlimited whereas oil is a limited quantity. I bet we could find more efficient ways to make ethanol. Anything can really be used as fuel, we just have to find enough of it.
