Message from a dairy farmer - 2007/10/30 00:51 A dairy farmer near Wichita Kansas told me this:

the only milk buyer in my area is DFA (Dairy Farmers of America). They recently sent out a letter to all area producers saying that they soon will no longer be accepting BST milk. (I don't know if this new DFA policy is nationwide or not.) Of course BST users are all up in arms. What I thought was interesting is that the company Smuckers is stepping in and saying, hey, we'll take your BST milk. They would be transporting this milk over to a plant in Missouri where they make Eagle Brand products.

I went to the Dairy Farmers of America website and cannot find a news release about this, so at this time, I cannot confirm this. I did find that more than 1900 dairies throughout the US sell their milk to Dairy Farmers of America.

I'll continue searching for confirmation and post any relevant links that I can find.

In the meantime, with the holidays approaching, many people will be using Eagle Brand milk products in their holiday baking. I urge users to switch to the organic counterparts.

If you can't find organic sweetened condensed milk locally, the organic foods section of Amazon.com has organic sweetened condensed milk at a very reasonable price. If you live in the 48 contiguous states, shipping is free for $25 or more of food products from Amazon.
