Re:Message from a dairy farmer - 2007/10/30 02:41
This is getting confusing!!
Dairy Farmers of America ( http://www.dfamilk.com/ ) owns Borden's Milk (look on the right side of the page there). I couldn't find anything on the Borden's website saying they're rBST-free, but searching google brought up a lot of forum and blog posts by people who say that the Borden's milk cartons say they are rBST-free.
Look at the press release on the bottom of the page at this dairy news blog ( http://www.wdexpo.org/?cat=22 ):
Smuckers Acquires Eagle Posted: April 5, 2007 at 8:12 pm By News Editor Eagle Family Foods Holdings Inc, maker of Eagle Brand condensed milk was purchased by the J.M. Smucker Co. for $248 million this week.
The move will force the closing of Eagle Family’s headquarters, where 45 people work. Smucker said some workers will have the chance to transfer to Orrville, Ohio. Smucker also is acquiring Eagle Family’s Magnolia sweetened condensed milk brand, None Such mincemeat, Borden Eggnog and Kava acid-neutralized coffee.
Smucker plans to continue operations at Eagle Family’s manufacturing plants in Seneca, Mo., and El Paso, Texas, where 155 work. The deal is expected to be final May 1. Eagle Family, which is privately held, was formed by GE Investment Private Placement Partners II and Warburg Pincus Ventures. Today, Dairy Farmers of America is also a co-owner of Eagle Family.
So this confirms that Smucker's owns Eagle Brand. But it says that Dairy Farmers of America, which owns Borden's, ALSO co-owns Eagle Brand along with Smuckers.
Eagle Brand foods ( http://www.effinc.com/ ) produces Borden's eggnog. Even if Borden's fluid milk is rBST-free, I wouldn't trust the egg nog (I don't drink it anyway).
