Is chi gong the same as Tai chi ? - 2007/07/06 22:04 Yes and no .
Chi Gong is at least 3,000 years old
Tai chi is both chi gong and martial arts . Although exercises similar to Tai chi may have been practiced by taoists 1,000 years ago , todays popular styles of tai chi were created in the 1600s . Tai Chi consis of four main stages of training: the slow motin exercise for health coordination and balance ,push-hands sensitivity training self-defense ; and weapons (sward, saber , staff, spear)

Re:Is chi gong the same as Tai chi ? - 2007/11/14 16:55 Is Tai Chi the same as Qigong? The answer is kind off, and yes. Qigong is much older than Tai Chi Chuan. Records show that Qigong was developed out of what we know today as Dao Yin. This is a series of stretching movements similar to yoga with additional breathing techniques. The next development was Ba Duan Jin (Eight Pieces of the Brocade)which are slow rythmic movements aligned with breathing. Noone knows for sure how or when Tai Chi was developed, there are many different stories around its creation. As with much of Chinese history, myth merges with actual events to create beautiful fairy stories. The original Tai Chi form was made up of 13 movements supposedly invented by Chang San Feng after watching a fight between a crane and a snake. Included in the 13 movements is the Nei Gong or Internal Qigong. When masters taught their disciples they shared their knowledge of the Nei Gong. It was kept a close secret for many centuries. Today some masters teach it openly, some don't.
