There are several different types of Rosemary herbs. Most people are familiar with the three types of Rosemary used in Mediterranean cooking these are the Miss Jessup, Tuscan Blue and Spice Island. These Rosemary plants look like a bush or shrub, and have tall stocks. In most cases the stocks are a blue or violet color. As with all Rosemary plants both the leaves and flowers can be eaten. These herbs, however, are the tastiest and food dishes and the most aromatic of the different varieties of the herb.

Growing Rosemary is very easy. The plant does not require special treatment, and in most cases does not thrive when it receives too much attention. As long as it is kept in a soil that has good drainage, receives water, and has 6 to 8 hours of sun, it will grow into a large bush.

A region that has temperatures which dropped below 30 degrees will need to make some accommodation for the Rosemary. If you live in this type of climate, you will need to ensure that your plant is kept indoors during the winter. Most rosemary bushes do not do well in doors for a simple reason. They require 6 to 8 hours of sunlight each day, whether they are indoors or outdoors. Setting your Rosemary near a window in doors will not provided enough sunlight to stay healthy. You will need to get artificial lighting for your bush. The plant does not require heat from the sun, but it does require light.

A terra-cotta pot is the ideal home for a rosemary bush. These pots do not absorb water as many other parts do. So that Bush can stay dry. When preparing your pot it is important to put small stones in the bottom before you put soil in the pot. This will allow better drainage and keep the roots healthy.

You will also want to plant on re-potting your Rosemary on a yearly basis. Once they have taken root and started to thrive, a Rosemary will grow into a beautiful bush very quickly. They are incredibly fragrant and will add a beautiful display to any garden or home.

Each year, in the Spring, you should plan on fertilizing your Rosemary with a fish and kelp emulsion. This mixture is natural and provides important nutrients to the plant. Mixing this emulsion with water and spritzing your plant periodically will also help it to stay healthy.

Powdery mildew is a problem for Rosemary herbs. This white fungus takes over plants and causes them distress. There are many remedies available for conditions plants may acquire. However, a simple remedy is to put a tablespoon of vinegar in a spritzer of water and spritz your plant liberally until the fungus is gone. This treatment also rips the plan of aphids and spider bites. The Rosemary is a beautiful plant, aromatic, and provides an individual with many benefits. It makes us stunning border plant, is great in the garden, and wonderful in a home.
