If you have thought it would be a good idea to build your own diy solar panels, but have hesitated because you thought it would be too difficult, that you would need a Phd to successfully build your own solar panels, then think again.

There are now a plethora of do it yourself guides that will walk you step by step through the process of building your own solar cells and panels. In general the guides are very simple to follow and will show you how to build a system with readily available materials for under $200.

It really is that easy, the only other thing you will have to do is clear a couple of days to do the project and if possible get someone to help you. In just a couple of days you will have your first panel built and working.

That is all there is to it. Just clear a couple of days, grab a friend or family member and in no time at all you will have built your first solar panel and be harvesting solar energy from it to run your appliances on. Not the world's best handy person? Don't worry, whilst you will need to do some measuring, cutting and construction, you can't go wrong by following the written and in some cases video instruction that comes with your diy guide. Getting the family involved will help, having an extra set of eyes and hands is invaluable.

Getting the family involved is one of the best reasons to undertake a diy project like this, the education they receive and the awareness of environmental issues it raises is priceless.

Now for the question on everyone's lips, does it save us any money? Well I'm happy to report around a 70% reduction in our energy bills, IM sure you will agree this is pretty substantial and translates to man hundreds of dollars (or even thousands of dollars if you energy needs are much greater) a year.

We also feel great about the fact we are helping the environment by reducing the emissions and polluting by-products of using electricity and oil.

So don't put it off any longer, get to work and build your own solar panel and get the whole family involved, help save the planet while saving some money.
