During the winter season, life can be hard for wild birds. Not only is it harder to find food but there are a number of hungry predators attempting to survive in the cold conditions. When wild birds locate free food left out by humans, they will tend to return to this site on a regular basis to find more.

If you want to attract wild birds into your garden then providing a regular source of food is the easiest way, especially during winter when they are particularly in need. It is not all about survival though as birds, especially the younger birds, clearly love to play. A great way to add some extra fun factor to your garden is by installing a solar water fountain, as our feathered friends appear to take great delight from playing in water.

Solar fountains do not have to be connected up to your mains. This means that you can place them anywhere in your garden, so long as the area chosen receives an abundance of sunlight.

As they are powered directly from the sun, there are no ongoing electric charges to worry about and maintaining them made a great deal more straightforward.

A wide range of different solar fountain options are available online, in local garden centres and in stores which sell furniture for the home and garden. Designs range from classic stonework fountains that would have not have failed to complement the gardens of the 19th century privileged class to the ultramodern metallic designs which look truly spectacular in dazzling sunshine.

A birdbath should be raised sufficiently from ground level to enable birds to take pleasure in it without fearing that they will be eaten. If you are a cat owner, you will find that your cat will attempt to catch any birds if they are given the opportunity. An adequate shape from the point of view of a bird is that of a tall chalice. This allows them to remain safe while bathing and playing.

A suitable location for a solar fountain bird bath is somewhere you see all the action but far enough away that the birds feel comfortable visiting.

You should refrain from placing your solar fountain underneath trees as natural waste from trees can impair solar fountain functioning.
