"I can't find my keys". How often does this happen to you? You lose your keys and turn the contents of your bag or house over only to find that they were on the table, in plain view, all along.
"I can't find my keys". How often does this happen to you? You lose your keys and turn the contents of your bag or house over only to find that they were on the table, in plain view, all along. How is it that you can't see something that is right in front of your eyes? Or something which you're sure is in your pocket, but no matter how hard you try, you cannot find it. Even when you turn your pockets out, it's not there. And then later, you find it in the bottom of your pocket. It's really all about belief and expectation. Belief and expectation is what makes your life happen the way it does. In the same way that if you believe your keys are lost you wont see them, if you do not believe something, you will not see the evidence to back it up. Your beliefs have not come to you overnight, they are the process of years of life and millions of thoughts, the same is true of your expectations. If, rather than saying, "I've lost my keys", you could distract yourself for ten minutes and forget that you'd lost them, they would probably show up. This is easier said than done, but it does work. If you continue to think and believe that your keys are lost, or that you are always losing your keys, then they will continue to elude you, because as far as you believe, they are lost. People rarely make the jump from this simple example, which everyone has lived, to the more important and serious beliefs they hold on the important subjects in their lives. Of course, we're talking about health, love, and money. For example, if you believe you are fat, ugly, unlovable, or poor, you will never be other than these, and you will miss the opportunities that life gives you to improve your situation, even if they are right in front of your nose, as you won't recognise them when they come. On a more subtle scale, if you believe that as you age, your body deteriorates, your skin wrinkles and you become flabby, then you will have this experience. But it needn't be so. If you believe that all of your lovers treat you badly and leave you for your best friends, then you will continue to attract people who will fulfill this prophecy. We form our beliefs, and the universe accommodates us. The question is what kind of beliefs do you hold, and are they what you want? If you believe that to be rich you have to work in a job which you hate, or that you have to work long and hard for your money, then you will have this experience. But would you rather be living something else? You can be. Life really is a blank slate, as far as we are concerned. We have freedom to choose what we want to live. Every man is born free, and with equal access to the goodies. But you have to believe it. Those who achieve great success in business or the arts understand this. They pay neither heed to external characteristics, nor to what others think about what they are doing. They hold determinedly to their goal and focus upon it until it is achieved. This trained focus of thoughts is what forms their beliefs, and eventually becomes their life experience. If what I'm saying is true (and of course it is), then we can decide what we want to believe, and live it. It is true that you will end up living your beliefs, but beliefs are formed over a long period of time and it takes focus and training of the mind over time to change beliefs, and as the majority spend most of their time focussed upon what is happening around them rather than what they would prefer, the evolutionary progress of society as individuals, is inevitably slowed. The world will give you constant evidence to back up your beliefs. If you have no money in you bank account, your current belief or vibe on money is probably that you don't have any money. If you believe that your relationship sucks, it probably does. Now you might say, "Oh that's obvious, it does suck, that's why I believe it." Actually it works the other way round. The world responds to your beliefs. Change how you see the world and the world will change. When things are looking a bit wobbly economically, it is important to keep an eye on where we want to go, and not get so bogged down in the detail. Unfortunately the UK press is about the worst offender when it comes to depressing, negative news anywhere in the world. If you want to know why our recession is worse than any other, look no further. If you don't look at where you want to go, you will not move in that direction. Argue all you want for reasons why you can't do something, but know that they are your limitations, and yours alone. Realise that you alone are in charge of your life, and you need to focus on what you want, to get to where you want to go. If the majority of the UK population believe that the UK is in recession, then it is. If they believe that things are on the up, then they are improving. It may be individuals living individual lives, individual recessions if you will, but put them all together and you have something much bigger; millions depriving themselves of the abundance and well-being that would be there if they didn't hold such negative beliefs. It could be right under their noses, but they wouldn't be able to see it. The Article Author: Andrew Goodman is a self-employed mechanical engineer with a keen interest in the spiritual side of life.
