You may know that using binaural beats lets you to achieve different states of mind. This is done by "tuning" your brain into different frequencies. Once your mind is tuned into these various frequencies, it is easier to obtain the state you are looking for such as relaxation, positive thinking, increasing your memory, better focus, and more.

Over the course of time, it has been discovered by scientists that different states of mind are related to different frequencies. As an example, if you tuned your brain into a frequency of about 9 to 14 Hz (Hertz is the number of changes per minute), this would be associated with a relaxed mental state, or a state where you may be reflecting on something. What binaural beats allow you to do is to achieve this type of mental state. Not to mention, getting yourself into the brainwave state you would like to achieve is easy with just a CD or MP3 player.

One of the questions you may be asking yourself is how someone's mind can "tune in" to a frequency. To achieve this result, two different sounds (one in each ear) will be played at similar (but different) Hertz. For instance, in the case of binaural beats, a tone could be administered at 50 Hz in one ear and at 55 Hz in the opposite ear. What this creates is a "difference" of 5 Hz, which causes the binaural beat. This beat then creates the state of mind that your brain will tune into.

The frequencies which the binaural beats can focus on are referred to as theta, beta, alpha and delta states. These four categories each target different frequencies and thus different states of mind. You may have heard of these states before, and they are commonly used when discussing binaural beats.

Starting in the 13 Hz to the 25 Hz range is the beta frequency range. Within this range, your brain can focus on reducing stress and anxiety, as well as remaining alert.

Next are the alpha frequencies. These frequencies range from 8 Hz to 12 Hz. Positive thinking and the ability to enhance your learning can occur in this range. In addition, it also causes a state of light relaxation.

The third category is the theta range. Frequencies in the theta range are from 4 to 7 Hz. This range of frequencies can result in increased focus, improved memory, deep relaxation, and is good for meditation.

Finally, the delta frequencies occur at less than 4 Hz. When the frequencies are in this range, this assists with deep sleep, increased immune functions, and loss of body awareness.

As you can clearly see, there are a huge number of benefits that binaural beats have to offer... And this article doesn't cover every single one of them either. They require no practice or experience at all -- Just someone with an open mind to get started.
