Scores of people begin to read the Bible with great desire. Lots of them have good intentions but only a few end up really making it a lifelong habit. Why does this happen? What is different about those people who end up making a real habit out of it? I believe the reasons are found in a couple of short steps that I will write about in this article.

Scores of people begin to read the Bible with great desire. Lots of them have good intentions but only a few end up really making it a lifelong habit. Why does this happen? What is different about those people who end up making a real habit out of it? I believe the reasons are found in a couple of short steps that I will write about in this article.

To begin with, many people just don?t set aside the right amount of daily time to make a lifelong habit out of reading the Word. Lots of people show a strong desire to want to spend time with God in the Word, but just having a desire doesn?t do much. Countless people want to stick to a dieting plan, but very few can. For you to have a positive experience with your Bible reading, you have to be regular about it. I think setting aside about twenty minutes a day for a month is right to begin with.

Next, it is important that you have a place where you can read the Bible without distraction. Get away from the TV, radio and the internet. Get away from noise and visual clutter. Find a place where you can read undisturbed.

Make sure you have a readable version of the Bible. Finding a modern English translation today isn't hard. The New International Version (NIV) or the New Living Translation (NLT) are both very good, easy to read translations. If you struggle to read the sentences you will find yourself comprehending less and less. This can be frustrating, so make sure you find a translation of the Bible that is easy to read.

Next, start choose a book of the Bible that is easy to understand. You don't have to start reading the Bible from the beginning. the Gospel of John is a great place to start since it is very readable.

Something helpful to have around is a notebook and a pen or pencil. Keep track of the thoughts and questions that come to your mind as you read. Doing this will help you be able to keep reading without getting distracted by one question or concept. Later on, you can take your questions to a pastor or a mature Christian.

It is very important to come to your Bible reading with a heart of submission. The Bible is a very special book because God himself gave it to us. The best way to read it is with a humble attitude so that you can grow in your relationship with him. Take a second and stop and pray before you begin to read. Pray that God would help you understand what you are going to read and allow it to change you. God answers this kind of prayer.

The Bible is the most incredible book in the world. It will help you grow spiritually. Now that you have these few simple instructions, you can put make your Bible reading time spiritually profitable.
