It is clear from historical evidence that it was not long after the gypsies' arrival in Europe that attitudes toward them turned hostile. It is possible that the gypsies brought some of this unwelcome attention on themselves, as life in medieval Europe was feudal in nature with most people bound to the land. The arrival of large numbers of nomadic travelers would have been difficult to digest. Such a system would also have made it virtually impossible for these nomads to obtain either land or employment, leaving them to earn a meager living with what they brought from India: their wits, and chiromancy. It was certainly not long before the word gypsy became associated with the wagon-dwelling fortune-teller that is so well known in popular culture today. Psychic readings for money enabled the gypsies to survive, as their fortunes literally lay in their own hands. And with so many engaged in the practice, chances are that there were a large number who were indeed frauds.

Whether or not you believe that psychics are real, there is something to be said for the immense cultural impact psychics have had on society today. Theyre in movies, video games, radio broadcasts, and even mainstream TV shows like Medium, and lately have been used by many police departments across the US today to solve crimes or to help in the aid of finding missing people. So obvious they pose some truth into their claims or the police departments around the US wouldnt be relying on the psychics to aid in their investigations for the fact that they would just be delaying the investigation if they where fake. So a psychic still is an awe-inspiring figure in todays culture, and will continue to be for as long as humans desire to know and understand the supernatural world that many believe is around us every day.

For many people, skepticism about the validity of psychic readings stems more from attitudes toward psychics than general belief or disbelief in the existence of the paranormal. This attitude is at least in part a result of psychics' inability to police their own ranks and weed out the frauds who hawk phony fortune-telling services designed only for profit. In ancient times, groups like the Roman Augurs were organized and given state sanction to determine their own membership and qualifications. No such sanction exists today, and without that authority true psychics must compete for credibility with even the most obvious of charlatans. To make matters worse, the general lack of understanding about psychics in general leads many to question their accuracy.

The art of crystal ball gazing is not one that should be taken up on a whim. It is one of the more demanding psychic disciplines, requiring the utmost levels of patient practice to develop the prerequisite relationship between the psychic and his or her crystal ball. To be sure, any reasonably gifted psychic will be able to see clouds and mist within the ball, but only those to whom the ball is properly attuned will be able to divine anything of real meaning. For this reason, the psychic must always regard his or her crystal ball as a very personal item, and treat it with the highest level of respect. To ensure the strength and accuracy of psychic readings, it is essential that no one but the owner handles the ball - as such contact can diminish the crystal ball's effectiveness by tainting its essence.

Psychic diviners have a broad range of methods available to them by which they can attain the insight necessary to accurately read events of the future. One of the more popular means available is lithomancy, which is today more commonly referred to as casting crystals. The art of casting crystals dates back thousands of years, and has taken a variety of forms throughout history. Through this process, the psychic uses his or her intuition and experience to read the signs and omens of the crystals, interpreting the underlying messages that they reveal. Psychic readings based on lithomancy require keen insight and a honed perspective on the part of the psychic, and these qualities are only developed with time.
