Thailand is certainly an exotic destination that people dream of visiting all around the world. When planning a trip to Asia, many have it as their first stop. It has been a top destination for years and it is increasingly growing in popularity. Visiting a new country for the first time can be very intimidating. Being introduced to a new culture and language can cause a little bit of butterflies in the stomach once you step off the plane. Where do you go, what should you see? Here are some suggestions of great places that will take you outside of the tourist route and make you experience and adventure in Thailand to its fullest. Ralaigh Beach, Krabi. One of the most popular tourist areas in Thailand is Krabi Province. It is filled with beautiful beaches and lush green islands. Kharst formations jut out of the South China sea and in one spot in particular, you can climb them with the safety of a guide. Experienced and new climbers from all over the world flock to the sandy beaches of Ralaigh to climb their world class routes. Elephant Trek in Khao Sok - A beautiful National Park in Southern Thailand, it is less of a circus than the elephant treks in Chang Mai. The elephants seem to be treated fairly and look healthy in Khao Sok and to sit upon this gentle giant is a thrill. They manage to maneuver down steep hills and over rough terrain with ease as you hang on hoping not to take a tumble off your high perch. Stay in one of the many bungalows in the park and spend days exploring the trails, waterfalls and wildlife. Chang Mai is well known for its night market. Once the sun goes down, the stalls open up and thousands of people walk the streets bartering for the best price. Tourists visit the hill tribes by the masses and cooking classes have been a staple here for several years. But think outside of the box and experience Thailand's deep spirituality with a meditation course. Slow down and re-centre yourself before you start your travels again. Truly inspirational. In Kanchanaburi you can witness the famous Bridge on the River Kwai. Learn about the atrocities that took place here at the JEATH War Museum commemorating the men who died to build the bridge. Take a walk right on the tracks or hop on the short train ride that actually takes tourists over it. Stay in a floating river raft bungalow located right on the River Kwai, it is a nice change of pace to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Taking a Tuk Tuk downtown Bangkok - No visit to Thailand would be complete without a ride in a Tuk Tuk. These 3 wheeling covered motorbikes zip in and out of traffic in frenzy. Hold on and hope that you don't tip. They are cheap and easy to get around in, but be prepared for a loud ride and to breathe in a lot of fumes. Negotiate hard though and don' t fall for the scam of being taken to gem markets for the cheap price of 10 baht. Something that every Tourist should do is visit one of Thailand's many waterfalls. It is a welcome change to the hear and they are absolutely lovely set on high rocks in the jungle. It is hard to choose a favorite, but Ko Samui has an incredible watering hole. Thailand is one of those countries that most people return to again and again. And with good reason. These were only a few off the beaten path suggestions, but to take in everything that it has to offer, you will have to give yourself months to truly discover the land. From scuba diving and jungle trekking to fine dining and nightlife, it has something for every travelers needs. The Article Author: Dave Bouskill and Deb Corbeil are an adventure couple from Canada.
