Did The Secret work for you? Or did you find that after the first week life went back to normal? I bet you even tried thinking those positive thoughts and getting those positive feelings, but every time you tried, it felt like everything just went flat.

But now you knew there could be more and you wanted it.

You desired it.

Too Much Was Left Out in the Movie -- In all honesty, I don't think this movie was supposed to be any different then what it was. Its purpose was to introduce you to a new way of thinking and being, and frankly, I think it did its job. Details on how to create a better life were never supposed to be in the movie. So now what?

Thinking positive thoughts is just not enough. To create effective change in your life, it takes more than a happy thought here or there. Each and every one of us has an internal critic inside our heads. Haven't you noticed that every time you think a positive thought or try to make a change in your life, that little voice starts talking back to you. Are you familiar with this?

Positive thought: "I am so glad to be changing my life in this way."

Negative thought: "You couldn't change your life if it depended on it. You are stuck right where you are."

Happy thought: "I just know that what I want in life is coming to me easily and effortlessly."

Counter thought: "Yeah and how's that working for you anyway? I don't see any changes, looks like the same old loser to me."

So What Are You Supposed to think? -- Everybody has these kinds of thoughts, negative to positive. In reality, we all have about 50,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day.

They were right when they said that in the movie The Secret, it is the law of attraction at work. Science has proven this to be true. Studies have been done to measure negative thoughts to positive thoughts (and yes they do have a way to measure the difference). Even though all this thinking is going on, science tells us that only 5% of it is conscious.

They have completed tests that measure the good thought to bad thought ratio in the average person. And unbelievably, less than 10% of them are conscious thoughts.

You may know this place. It is the place where all your shortcomings are held. The place where your insecurities dwell - where the taunts from childhood school chums still echo.

The point of this article is this: we all have negative memories programmed into our subconscious, and like Julia Roberts says in Pretty Woman, the negative stuff is easier to believe.

So when we try to develop a new thinking process, we're shot down by our own internal voices.

On average each person experiences 4 negative thoughts to ever positive thought they have. With this kind of ratio, it will be hard to affect a positive change in your life. The key then is to move the balance over to the positive side. This will make the change you seek in your life.

But most of us simply don't know how to do this. So we sign up for self-help development program one after the other, vainly searching for the one that will make life work out the way we want. The problem comes when most people don't know where to turn and what program to get into to make a change.

Whatever program you use make sure it is one that is a fit with how you learn. In other words, is it visual, auditory or kinesthetic? If you are a visual person, by try changing your life by listening to CD's you won't get the response you like.

Programs that allow you all of the three learning styles will be the most effective in helping you make that change in your life -- in as little as thirty days.
