Craft shows are special events; for here, you get to meet people of various talents. From the quiet, calculating woodcarver to the happy seamstress who loves to talk about the nuances of her embroidery, each and every one of them has their own talent to show and their own stories to tell. All their crafts aside, it is fun to go to craft shows even if you're just there to meet these amazing people.

But don't get me wrong, though. It's not my intention to make light of their crafts in any way at all. Those are the star attractions in a craft show, after all. But the crafted piece is, in effect a piece of the crafts person's soul. Because of this, ones appreciation for a person's crafted item should increase.

Whenever I attend one of these craft shows around Montana, I make it a point to know who are the men and women who make these amazing works of arts before purchasing any of them. There are times, however, that I find people just there to mind the display; they're not the makers. While it is disappointing, yes, I'm pretty much used to it. As it happens, it just makes the pleasure of getting to talk to the creator of the item that much more interesting.

Thus, if you are an aspiring crafts person living in the State of Montana, I urge you to be in the front lines, so to speak. Not only do you see your crafts being appreciated by the people who purchase them from you, you also get to oversee the booth personally and handle any problems on your own. The risk of having someone screw up your small business goes down as everything is left in your own capable hands.

So if you have an ability with crafts, and you want to start your own small business out of it, do it with your own active hand. Hired help is okay, and will ease you of some of the burden, but maintain a visible presence in the store nonetheless.
