Yoga is probably one of the very best sciences for quick and healthy weight loss. This is because yoga programs incorporate exercises which utilize a great deal of powerful dynamic movement, which is ideal for burning fat, increasing metabolism and consuming calories. Unlike many of the other methods of weight loss, yoga produces more permanent weight loss. This loss in body weight is not associated with any physical or emotional problems. Yoga is a relatively cheaper way to lose weight. Start with simple warming up exercises before yoga practice. Rest for five minutes in Shavasana (in Sanskrit, shav means corpse) in the end of yoga session, which keeps mind and body relaxed. To practice Shavasana, lie on the back with arms at the sides, legs stretched out slightly apart. Then close your eyes, take a deep breath and try to relax your mind. This may take a few minutes to get adjusted to in the beginning. The most important thing to do is to pay attention to your breathing- which should be regular and deep. Prana is derived from Sanskrit and means energy. This energy will allow you to maintain control of your breathing even when you are in the sub conscious. It is this energy which is the key to life. Breathing is essential to life: the absorption of air by the inhalation of oxygen and its expulsion by the exhalation of carbonic gas (carbon dioxide). The yogic breathing consists of three parts as explained below. Always inhale and exhale through the nose. The abdomen: Inhale and allow the abdomen to expand like a bow. The lungs fill with air during exhalation. This is an excellent exercise for abdomen, which regularizes the functioning of the intestines and stimulates digestion. The middle part of the chest (thorax): Put the hands on either side of the ribs. Inhale slowly inflating the sides thoroughly, then exhale and repeat several times. The process purifies blood, improves circulation and calms the heart. The upper part of the chest or collar bones (clavicle): Put hands on each side of clavicle. Contract the stomach slightly. Inhale slowly pushing the clavicle upwards, then begin to exhale pushing it downwards. Repeat several times. The process cleans and fortifies the upper chest. Yoga and meditation go hand in hand to provide you with best of the ability to stay calm and focussed , and keeping the body in equilibrium. Yoga Butterfly Asana (pose), just like Hatha Yoga Back Stretching Pose, is recommended as an exercise that should be an integral part of your meditation practice. Rules to practice Pranayama or Yoga O Start practice not before the age of eight to ten years. O Yoga exercise is equally useful for both sexes: male and female. O Always practice in a peaceful, calm, noiseless and airy environment. O Wear clothes which are sufficient to protect the body. O Avoid wearing tight clothes. Yoga should be done on empty stomach. Therefore eat at least 2-3 hrs before your practice. Children under the age of 12 years should be guided by an Instructor. Normal breathing should be maintained while performing yoga postures. Look to increase the duration of your poses as you get better. This is the only way to keep improving. Consult your doctor prior to performing yoga if you have any existing health challenges such as diabetes or high blood pressure. One must try cool down at the end just as you warmed up in the beginning of a yoga session. Too much and too fast yogic practice does not provide instant results. Be slow but steady. Remember, with proper care and monitoring of your entire yoga workout, you would be soon in the best shape of your life.
